Votes at a glance: Westwood board approves student recognitions and budget motions

The Westwood Regional Board of Education approved a series of resolutions and motions during Tuesday’s meeting, including multiple student recognitions and motions advancing the preliminary budget.

Student recognitions: the board unanimously carried resolutions congratulating Mary Urban as a Bergen County Unsung Hero and recognizing Ben Rabinowitz (valedictorian) and Sawyer Donis (salutatorian) of the class of 2026. The board also adopted a comprehensive Seal of Biliteracy resolution listing students who demonstrated proficiency in English and an additional world language, and a resolution recognizing March as Arts in Our Schools Month and commending students selected for county, regional and state performing ensembles.

Budget-related votes: For the budget, the board moved and approved administrative and governance items a–c, personnel items a–m, and the finance and facilities committee’s preliminary budget items a–c (which include use of capital and emergency reserves and a Berkeley façade project tied to HVAC work). Those motions were approved by roll call and recorded in the meeting as "motion carried." The administration said detailed allocations and line-item adjustments will be shared at the April 30 public hearing.

Budget votes advance the district’s preliminary budget to the Bergen County Executive Superintendent for review; the board scheduled a public hearing on April 30 for public comment and more detailed presentation of line items.
