Board approves recognition and several disciplinary motions; tentative budget filing imminent

During the action portion of the meeting the board approved multiple routine and contested items. The board unanimously passed Resolution 4943, recognizing March 31 as International Transgender Day of Visibility and reaffirming the district's commitment to safety and inclusion for transgender and gender nonconforming students.
The board unanimously approved minutes from the Feb. 12 retreat and the Feb. 26 regular meeting. The consent agenda (items 4934'through 4942 and 4944, among others) passed on a unanimous roll call.
On student disciplinary matters and appeals the board recorded several votes: the board upheld a student removal for non-residency (Res. 4946) on a unanimous roll call; it upheld one long-term suspension (Res. 4947) with one No vote recorded by Board member Malini Nayar; it declined a disciplinary recommendation for another long-term suspension (Res. 4948) by unanimous roll call; it decided a HIP appeal (Res. 4949) with one abstention by Board member Elizabeth Callahan; and it carried a hand-carry resolution(s) (Res. 4950) with mixed yes/no votes and an abstention recorded but announced as carried on the floor.
Interim Business Administrator Frank Servills, joining virtually, said he expected to submit the tentative budget by the statutory deadline the next day and described agenda items coming up in procurement and construction management, including a one-month extension for a construction manager to complete delayed locker and flooring work at the high school.
The board announced future public sessions (next public meeting on April 23) and that the formal public vote on the budget is scheduled for May 4. The meeting adjourned at 10:33 p.m.
