Board recognizes FFA team, Youth & Government participants and state cross-country champion

At the Nov. 18 meeting, the Moriarty-Edgewood School District board publicly recognized several student achievements.
Jeremiah Young and the district FFA team returned from Indianapolis, where the team placed silver in the agronomy contest; individuals included two silver and one bronze placements. Teacher-led Youth & Government and National History Day delegations also reported success: the district sent roughly 31 middle-school students to Youth & Government and several student-authored bills advanced through committees and one was signed by the youth governor. Students described bills ranging from a required home-economics semester to proposals on kindergarten-age requirements and renewable energy on public lands (student proposals discussed in Youth & Government, not district policy proposals).
Coach/introducer remarks and student comments singled out Moriarty High School runner Carmen Dorsey Spitz for winning the state cross-country title and breaking the state and course records; Carmen thanked her coaches and family for support.
The board extended congratulations and excused families after the recognitions. These recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required.
