Board adopts 2026–27 special education and Perkins CTE plans

The Dickenson County School Board voted April 22 to adopt the district’s 2026–27 special education annual plan and the Perkins career and technical education allocation for the coming school year.

Dr. Nees presented the special education summary sheets and the full plan, reviewing the IDEA (6‑11) personnel and set‑aside amounts and the early‑childhood (6‑19) allocations for ages 2–5. Dr. Nees told the board the funds cover personnel, purchase services and materials and said, "If none, I will need a a, approval of this so I can send it in to the state by May 8." The board approved the special education plan as presented to allow timely filing with the state.

On Perkins funding, Dr. Nees outlined an allocation proposal for 2026–27 that included personnel, technology purchase services and capital/equipment totaling roughly $50,000. He said the district had received approximately the same Perkins allocation as the prior year and that staff were exploring grants or outsourcing to stretch limited funds; the board moved and approved the Perkins plan.

Why it matters: approving these plans is a routine statutory and administrative requirement that authorizes the district to use federal and state special education and Perkins funds for personnel, services and equipment for the coming school year. Dr. Nees emphasized deadlines and state submission requirements.
