At its Feb. 17 meeting the Bridgeport City Council handled a range of procedural and appointment matters, including withdrawing items, consolidating communications for committee referral, adding members to the Citizens Union committee and confirming appointments to the Board of Assessment Appeals.
Council leaders withdrew items 33‑25 and 27‑25 from immediate consideration to allow committee-level discussion and then approved a consolidated motion to refer remaining communications to the appropriate committees. The consent calendar moved forward; the council approved a settlement of pending litigation (item 15‑25) read into the record by the clerk.
Council members voted on multiple nominees for the Citizens Union Committee and directed that nominations be submitted in writing to the city clerk. Names added during the meeting included Joe Filibert, Shawn Mitchell and Charles Fuller; motions to add each name were made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The council also conducted roll‑call votes on appointments to the Board of Assessment Appeals and related bodies. The clerk read the roll and recorded individual votes; John Mariani’s appointment to the Board of Assessment Appeals carried by roll call. Additional appointments advanced and the council closed the session with a motion to adjourn.
The meeting record shows that members asked for written submissions when needed and repeatedly reminded the public that written comments could be filed with the city clerk.
What happens next: The appointed board members will be added to the relevant rosters and the clerk will file written nomination materials. Committee referrals will proceed to committee consideration as directed during the meeting.
