Roseland honors Girl Scouts for food drive and celebrates youth soccer championship

The Roseland governing body on Jan. 13 honored two local youth groups: Girl Scout Troop 20131 received proclamations for a volunteer food drive, and the Roseland Spirit girls soccer team (fifth and sixth grade) was presented a championship trophy.
The mayor described how the Girl Scouts petitioned the community and, with parental help, went door to door collecting food that was dropped off at Burrow Hall and distributed through the borough’s food bank and Helping Hand partners. Certificates were presented to the troop and will be corrected to list each scout by name and delivered to their homes.
The council also called the soccer players up to receive a trophy from Recreation Director Dave Robotham and invited coaches to speak. Head coach Sally Sebastian praised the players for an undefeated season with one tie and thanked them for their effort and resilience in a season that extended into cold and snowy conditions.
The recognitions were ceremonial acknowledgments of volunteer service and youth athletic achievement; no formal action or funding decisions were associated with the presentations.
