Commission discusses pool funding, cannabis‑tax allocation and late‑season pass option

On pool-pass pricing, staff presented a recommendation to keep existing season pass rates but add a late‑season reduced rate beginning July 10 for the remainder of the season; staff's draft applied a 25% reduction to regular-season rates. "Starting July 10, have a reduction in the forecast fee for the remainder of the season," the staff member said when explaining the draft.
Commissioners questioned whether the late‑season reduction would still be more expensive than the early‑bird rate and suggested comparing neighboring municipalities' approaches. One commissioner warned that residents could be misled if the late rate appears to offer better value than early-bird registration. "I don't want people to be kind of misled thinking they're still gonna get more bang for their buck by registering early bird than waiting for July 10," a commissioner said.
The panel also discussed senior and nonresident rates; staff confirmed nonresident seniors currently pay the regular nonresident rate and there is not a separate reduced daily senior rate at this time. Staff said the summer brochure goes to print in early April and that the pool-pass recommendation needs to reach the board to be included in that guide.
Staff provided registration revenue figures for culinary programs to illustrate registration trends but did not tie specific dollar totals to pool renovations; commissioners asked staff to review comparable towns' practices and to consider whether the late-season discount should match early-bird levels or be a smaller percentage given the shorter remaining season.
Next steps: staff will present the pool-pass recommendation to the board (agenda item timing to be confirmed) and revisit comparisons with other municipalities and senior-rate options; no change was adopted at this meeting.
