Staff responded that adding hours is not as simple as scheduling one worker; it affects custodial shifts, front-desk coverage and cleaning schedules and must align with the fiscal-year budget. "There are a lot of other things that become involved as far as cleaning the facility and things of that nature... it's very rarely as simple as just adding one person," a committee member said.
Staff noted the current budget for the year is set and that any change would require discussion with the director, custodial staff and contractors; they also pointed out the center already supports some later programs (a pickleball league that goes until 10 p.m.) by having front-desk staff and a site supervisor work extra hours, covered by program revenue.
Commissioners asked whether a formal rental procedure exists; staff said there is no current policy allowing after-hours rentals and that the department is not currently letting outside groups rent after hours. Next steps: staff will discuss options with the director and maintenance staff, evaluate staffing and cleaning needs, and report back if a limited after-hours rental policy can be implemented.
