Hackensack unveils redesigned city website with multilingual support and event integration

The City of Hackensack demonstrated a redesign of its official website at the March 24 council meeting, emphasizing mobile access, simplified navigation and expanded tools for residents.

Frank Borelli, who led the redesign, said the site now uses a single-pane layout to improve mobile friendliness, and noted “about 50% of our users are experiencing the site on both mobile and desktop.” He described a redesigned calendar that now allows residents to view past events and add current events to personal calendars (Google, Apple, Outlook), and said the public-notices page will time-stamp and categorize documents such as ordinances, bids, RFPs and planning notices.

Borelli said the site includes quick-link tiles identified by file type (PDF, image, link) and a new newsroom page that aggregates press releases and the weekly newsletter. He also confirmed multilingual capability via Google Translate — “if you go over to the globe, you could select between Arabic, Chinese…French, German” — and said the team plans to add calendar toggles and color coding so users can filter events by department or type.

Mayor Kasim Gaines and council members praised the upgrade and asked staff to consider making job postings more prominent on the homepage; a council liaison later noted personnel openings are posted under the city’s personnel department and suggested a more conspicuous placement.

The city asked residents to report feedback via info@hackensack.org and noted that agendas, minutes and livestream access are available through the new site.
