TAC hears Year 2 VPSP2 bridge program update; Year 2 focuses on bridges, local match remains same

Christine Forde, CCRPC senior transportation planner, briefed the Transportation Advisory Committee on the VPSP2 Bridge program for Year 2 on March 2, saying this year’s emphasis will be on Interstate, State and Town Highway bridges while next year will return focus to roadway, traffic and safety projects.
Forde reviewed the transportation value criteria used to evaluate bridges and explained that projects reach the capital program through three pathways: asset-driven, safety-driven and a new regionally-driven approach. Committee members asked whether local match requirements would change; Forde said the local match would remain the same. A member asked what happened to safety-driven projects; Forde responded that safety-driven and asset-driven projects will be provided together on the same list.

The discussion did not include a formal vote; staff will return with materials and lists in coming months.
