Coach Tony Monken presented a privately run Vernon Hills Football Alumni Association Hall of Fame to the board on Nov. 18, describing last year’s inaugural event, the committee structure of coaches who will manage future inductions, and his aim to keep the program free for honorees. Monken said the event covers plaques, programs and venue costs and that last year’s attendance was “a little under 100” with a target of about 120 this year.
Trustees commended the volunteer initiative but raised equity questions about a single‑sport hall of fame and noted that other sports could pursue similar programs. Several trustees said they supported the effort and were prepared to offer a modest village contribution; President Cook asked staff to look for a possible $1,000 allocation and to return with a resolution for formal action. Monken said any contribution would go toward plaques, programs and tickets for inductees to keep the ceremony inclusive.
No formal funding was approved at the meeting; staff will review the budget and present a resolution at a future meeting if funds can be identified.
