Fremont City Schools honors "stellar students" across elementary grades

The Fremont City Schools board opened its regular meeting by inviting fifth-grader Silas Oman of Atkinson Elementary to lead the pledge, then paused business to recognize "stellar students" from multiple elementary schools. The Learning and Liberty Foundation, represented by trustee Susan Brickner, helped present certificates and support classroom awards.
"The Learning and Liberty Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit," Brickner said, describing the group's history and its efforts to offset classroom expenses and offer student scholarships. Superintendent Hurt noted the foundation sponsors the awards and thanked families and volunteers for attending.
Students were called forward by grade. Atkinson, Grogan, Lutz, Otis and other schools each read brief biographical notes about recipients and presented certificates; trophies were delayed and will be delivered to students at their buildings when ready. The board paused business for group photos and brief remarks from families.
Board members used the recognition to highlight related district programs: several members praised a second-grade literacy partnership with the Fremont Rotary Club called "fill your bucket," and the board noted recent superior ratings earned by choral, orchestra and band ensembles.
The meeting resumed regular business after the awards and photo opportunities.
