Peters said the city is a partner in work led by the Southwest Renewal Foundation and singled out Dorothy Darr, the foundation's executive director, for her role in securing the funding. "She has been amazing," Peters said.
Assistant City Manager Damon De Quain told the committee that part of the work tied to the grant will help the city assess and rehabilitate aging sewer infrastructure in the project area, and that the funds will support capital improvement program priorities and related budget planning.
The announcement came during the finance committee meeting where the council approved a series of contracts and budget items. Peters encouraged residents to attend upcoming theater performances and noted the grant announcement as a major step toward neighborhood investment and infrastructure work.
The city did not provide a project-level spending schedule during the meeting; Peters and staff said more detailed plans and timelines will be presented as grant partners and implementing agreements are finalized.
