Loretto mayor urges two‑year extension of state appropriation for railroad crossing safety improvements

Loretto Mayor Kent Cook testified the regional project, which benefits Loretto, Medina and Independence, has been delayed by coordination requirements with the railroad, higher material costs and uncertainty over federal funding. "While we remain committed to responsible use of state dollars, the project timeline has been delayed due to circumstances out of our control," Mayor Cook said, asking the committee to grant a two‑year extension.
Chair Pappas thanked the mayor and the senator for their presentation and laid the matter over for consideration.
