Eric Bridal outlined the need to restore the North Lime Pond after staff began transferring sludge to the South Pond when the North Pond reached capacity. Bridal said the ponds, constructed in 2012, consist of two cells so one side can receive sludge while the other dries or is cleaned out. He recommended staff work with Widseth Engineering to secure permits and hire a contractor to return the North Lime Pond to its original capacity.
"Over the course of the last 13 years, the North Pond has reached its capacity, and we have begun transferring sludge to the South Pond," Bridal said, and asked the commission to authorize the permitting and contracting process. He also updated the commission on related plant work, noting that contractor Industrial Contracted Services is scheduled to begin concrete patching at the plant reservoir with a short cure and follow-up disinfection and sampling consistent with American Water Works standards.
A motion to authorize staff to proceed with engineering and contractor procurement for the North Lime Pond restoration was moved and seconded and approved on a roll-call vote. The motion directs staff to work with Widseth Engineering to begin the permitting process and to solicit bids or hire a contractor to restore the pond; the contract procurement and budget details were not specified in the discussion.
Next steps: staff will pursue permits with Widseth Engineering and return to the commission with contractor details and any required budget requests or timelines.
