Brianna (staff) told the commission she is preparing rate and fee recommendations for 2026 and proposed creating a commercial deposit requirement to address small commercial accounts that have caused payment issues in recent years.
"One of the big things that I'm looking at is ... I am gonna propose a commercial deposit. We haven't had one before ... initially, I'm thinking either 500 or a 2 month estimated bill, whichever is greater," she said, adding she and staff will prepare formal documentation.
A commissioner asked for a written recommendation; Brianna said she will bring a formal RCA and a proposed resolution to the next meeting and noted the commission typically consolidates rate and fee actions at the Nov. 19 rate-setting session.
Why it matters: creating a commercial deposit could affect many small businesses that take utility service and could change the terms for new commercial accounts.
Next step: staff will prepare a formal proposal and resolution for the commission to review, with final rate and fee adoption scheduled around the Nov. 19 meeting if commissioners choose to consolidate decisions.
