City staff asks council to transfer $42,813 for HVAC repairs after unit failure

The staff representative described the unit as one of two large compressors for the building and said the repair bill to get the system running again would be roughly $32,000; staff requested a transfer of $42,813 from contractual services to the building maintenance line to cover repairs and related needs. The staff member warned lead times to build and deliver replacement compressors were roughly 60–90 days and potentially closer to 120 days.
Council members asked which portion of the building is impacted; staff said the courts and training spaces on one side are affected but the jail remains air conditioned. Staff said short-term measures — portable units or fans — have been used previously during extended outages. The council indicated it would take the budget-transfer request up and vote after reconvening that evening.
