Lenoir City board signals plan to budget for Edmentum instructional platform

Director (speaking as the presenter) told the board the intent is to let the vendor know the district plans to adopt the product and to begin planning implementation and teacher training. “What we wanna do is to just let the company know that this is our intent … We’re being transparent about it. But we intend to use it so that we can go ahead and get started,” the Director said.
Dr. Small described how the platform would consolidate multiple subscriptions currently in use and said the district expects cost savings compared with last year’s pricing. “This will save us, based upon last year’s, pricing,” Dr. Small said, noting the district previously relied on platforms such as IXL and a Florida‑based virtual content provider that required local teachers to supplement materials to meet Tennessee standards.
Board members asked about curriculum alignment, implementation timelines and technology compatibility. Dr. Small said principals, the instructional team and the technology department have reviewed compatibility and plan to use late spring and summer to train staff and ensure systems integrate before the school year.
The presentation did not propose immediate contract approval; rather, staff said they planned to include the platform as a line in next year’s budget and to notify the vendor of the district’s intent so implementation work can begin over the summer.
Next steps: staff will include the Edmentum line in the fiscal 2027 budget recommendation and oversee implementation planning; no formal procurement or contract award for Edmentum was finalized at the meeting.
