Odie’s asks to use parking space for weekly crawfish boils; council to vote at 6 p.m.

The Homewood City Council heard a request March 23 from Odie’s to use one parking space adjacent to its building for weekly crawfish boils on Thursdays in April.
Ryan Burrus, who signed in to represent Odie’s, told the council the business prefers the equipment on-site “because it kinda takes away from the whole atmosphere and experience” when cooking is moved off-site and said the setup would run from about 4 to 9 p.m. on the scheduled nights. “I’m just here to answer any questions,” Burrus said.
Council members confirmed the city would require an indemnification agreement to cover liability for nearby parked cars and other risks. One councilor noted firefighters and code officials typically discourage using the patio for such equipment because of fire hazards; Burrus said the patio could not safely accommodate the equipment.
The council indicated it would consider and vote on the permit at 6:00 p.m. when the meeting reconvened. If approved, staff said the applicant would be asked to sign the indemnity and other required paperwork before the event dates.
