House recesses for party caucuses after introductory session
Summary
After opening proceedings and the formal introduction of four House files for referral to Ways and Means, lawmakers scheduled party caucuses for the morning and the chamber recessed on a voice vote.
The House convened and, following a short invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance led by page Lorelai Maddy, the clerk read four bills that were given first reading and placed on the Ways and Means calendar.
House files introduced included: HF 2777, a bill relating to Iowa’s urban renewal law and changes to division of revenue; HF 2778, a bill modifying the individual income tax credit for emergency medical service personnel to include volunteer ambulance drivers (with retroactive applicability); HF 2779, a bill relating to authorization for advance deposit wagering; and HF 2780, a bill addressing alcoholic beverage control provisions including issuance of a class A wine permit to certain manufacturers and related fees. The clerk said the bills were given first reading and placed on the Ways and Means committee.
The chair then recognized members for announcements. Representative Meyer announced, "Democrats will caucus at 08:45 in Room 19." Representative Kaufmann, recognized as the member from Cedar, said, "Republicans will caucus at 9AM in Room 103," and moved that the House recess until conclusion of both party caucuses. With no further business, the chair put the motion to a voice vote; "the ayes have it," and the House recessed.
