House recesses for noon caucuses after brief opening

Representative Thompson of Wright offered the opening prayer, asking for guidance for lawmakers and prayers for the vulnerable and for U.S. service members. "We pray for our leaders to bring us an enduring peace," Thompson said in the invocation.
Representative Meyer of Polk announced that Democrats would caucus at noon in Room 19 and urged members to "keep an eye on your text messages." Representative Kaufman of Cedar told the House that Republicans would caucus after the education budget subcommittee concluded in Room 103 and estimated that would be "around noonish." Kaufman then moved "that the House recess to the conclusion of both party caucuses."
With no other business on the floor, the Speaker put Kaufman's motion to a voice vote, declared that "the ayes do have it," and announced that the House was in recess.
