Resident urges 4‑way stop, crosswalk improvements in Woodland Cove; council to add to work session
Summary
Resident Kurt Schneider asked the council to convert a two‑way stop to a four‑way stop and add marked crosswalks and signage at Woodland Cove crossings, citing increased pedestrian traffic, a bus stop and poor sightlines; council directed staff to place the topic on an April work session for engineering review.

A Woodland Cove resident told the Minnetrista City Council on March 16 that pedestrian safety measures are needed at two locations in his neighborhood as new homes and summer activity increase foot traffic.
Kurt Schneider asked the council to convert the intersection of Woodland Cove Boulevard and Lotus Drive from a two‑way stop to a four‑way stop, add striping to create a marked pedestrian crosswalk, and to add signage or a push‑button crossing for a trail crossing west of Bluestem. He said bus stops, pool traffic and food trucks will increase pedestrian activity and that vegetation and sightlines make the trail crossing hard to see during parts of the day.
Schneider said he had already spoken with the neighborhood master board and that Public Works suggested tree trimming; staff recommended an engineering review and placing the matter on a work session in April for recommendations. Mayor Kathleen Rufkin confirmed the council will add it to an April work session.
Why it matters: The request affects neighborhood safety, school‑age pedestrians and transit users. The council’s next step — an engineering review — determines whether signage, striping or a traffic control change is warranted and whether costs would be assessed or covered by the city.
What’s next: Staff will bring recommendations and engineering analysis to a planned April work session.
