CDA reports developer outreach and community housing awards; school district readies levy outreach and career fair

Joe (speaker 9) reported economic-development activities and upcoming events: a broker-developer event at Canterbury Park on Sept. 18 to promote Scott County communities to developers and brokers, the Fast Track Challenge on Oct. 7 (open to the public) with a finalist described as a New Prague AI solution for small and mid-sized businesses, and recent acceptance of bids awarding K A Wood Construction to build three community land trust homes in Shakopee with construction expected to start within a month.
Joe said the CDA is partnering on a Drive-for-5 grant application with about 15 organizations across Scott County to expand training and certifications (past Drive-for-5 cycles trained 150 participants). He encouraged ideas for workforce training needs and said applications are due Oct. 1.
Tony (speaker 10) represented the school district and said the year had a strong start with 17 new teachers and that some newly hired teachers had asked about local housing. Tony previewed the levy referendum outreach and promoted a Career and Tech Fair on Oct. 2 that will include more than 55 businesses in the morning and over 100 college/vocational tables in the afternoon; neighboring districts are invited.
Joe thanked partners Midwest Bank and the New Prague Chamber for sponsorships of CDA activities and said the CDA had raised over $23,000 for events.
