Council appoints temporary planning commissioner and reviews proposed 250th celebration committee

The New Prague City Council unanimously appointed Councilor Rick Seiler to serve temporarily on the planning commission to fill a vacancy and preserve quorum while staff continues to advertise for applicants.
Councilors noted another planning commission vacancy is expected in June; staff recommended the temporary council appointment so state statutory review deadlines for plats and other items can be met. Seiler volunteered and the motion passed 4-0.
On a separate item, staff updated the council on outreach for a proposed 250th American Revolution celebration. About three to four community members expressed interest in serving, but none volunteered to lead the effort. Staff recommended the city assist in forming contact lists and connecting volunteers to community groups (for example, the Chamber of Commerce or the American Legion) rather than run the event directly. Council members said they did not want to add major event-planning duties to staff workload and encouraged volunteer or partner-led efforts.
The meeting closed with routine miscellaneous items and adjournment.
