Kearney asked the commission to place the issue on the agenda within four months and offered three reasons for revisiting the decision: restoring a 70-foot limit in B3 could allow the city to use the Affordable Housing Ordinance (AHO) to collect larger cash-in-lieu payments from developers building taller projects; lowering the height limit would help preserve Bozeman’s historical character and sense of place; and a reduced B3 height would provide a more gradual transition from the 60-foot maximums in B3C (the historic Main Street area).
The commission did not take action on zoning tonight; Kearney’s remarks were recorded as general public comment and will be part of the public record.
