Commission provisionally adopts updates to Bozeman municipal court code to create court administrator role

Judge Tierney appeared before the commission to explain proposed code updates intended to modernize the Bozeman Municipal Court’s administration. He said many municipal court ordinances had not been updated since 1999 and that the retirement of a long‑time clerk offered an opportunity to reflect the office’s expanded responsibilities.
Tierney described the new court administrator as responsible for case flow, human resources and fiscal duties, while maintaining statutory duties for records and required functions. He said changes to judge pro‑tem qualifications were intended to align with state training and statutory requirements.
After brief commissioner questions about timing and staffing, Commissioner Majic moved to provisionally adopt the ordinance and the commission approved the motion unanimously (5–0). No public comment was received on the ordinance at the meeting.
