Smyth County Planning Commission elects 2020 officers, adopts procedures and annual report

At its Feb. 27, 2020 meeting the Smyth County Planning Commission conducted annual organization and administrative business, electing officers for calendar year 2020 and adopting operating procedures and the 2019 annual report.
Tony Dean moved and Hazel Wagoner seconded a motion to select Clegg Williams as temporary chairman to preside over nominations. Commissioners then nominated and elected officers for 2020: Joel Pugh was nominated by Graham Davidson Jr. and elected chairman; Graham Davidson Jr. was nominated by Paul Shepherd and elected vice chairman; Hazel Wagoner was nominated and elected secretary; and Sarah Parris was nominated and elected clerk. Vote tallies recorded in the minutes show each office carried with the support of the majority of present commissioners and one commissioner absent (Robert Campbell).
The commission also set its 2020 regular meeting calendar (fourth Thursday, with November and December dates tentatively moved because of holidays), approved the Dec. 26, 2019 meeting minutes, and adopted the operating procedures as presented. Commissioners adopted the 2019 annual report by motion and recorded a unanimous vote among those present.
The meeting recessed at about 6:29 p.m. to permit a 7:00 p.m. joint public hearing with the Board of Supervisors. The commission recorded no public commenters during its open citizens’ time.
