FSUSD reports growth in IB and GATE programs; district plans more outreach and supports

Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District staff on April 23 presented the annual review of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) programs, reporting enrollment growth and steps to increase access and achievement.
Katie Lee, GATE/IB coordinator, said IB enrollment rose from 235 to 304 students over the past year with projections to reach about 370 next year. She said 11 of 23 students earned the full IB diploma in 2025, up from six the previous year; by comparison, she cited a California IB diploma passage rate of about 68 percent and a global rate near 65 percent. The district also secured 195 IB exam fee waivers to expand access.
On GATE, Lee reported the program currently serves 929 students in grades 3–8, that 1,741 students were assessed and 191 qualified, and that the district is finalizing a GATE handbook and expanding professional development in-depth-and-complexity instruction.
Trustees thanked staff and discussed outreach and support for expanding these programs; staff said they will focus on raising IB diploma pass rates, growing alumni outreach, and broadening enrichment opportunities.
The presentation noted partnerships and student experiences including community volunteering and competitions; trustees asked about outreach and applauded program growth.
