Fort Worth landmarks commission approves nominations and COAs, continues one case

The Fort Worth Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission on April 13 approved multiple staff recommendations and took formal votes on several agenda items.
The commission unanimously approved the March 9 minutes, then voted 7–0 to recommend a city text amendment clarifying the commission's authority to recommend historic designations or removals to city council (case HCLC‑26‑094). Commissioners also approved a resolution supporting nomination of the Binion O'Keefe Storage Company building to the National Register of Historic Places (Resolution 2026‑2026‑03) 7–0.
On landmark overlays and certificates of appropriateness, the commission approved staff recommendations for the North Fort Worth Baptist Church property at 1519 Circle Park (HCLC‑26‑075) and several new‑residence COAs with staff conditions, including 1104 Stella Street (HCLC‑26‑053), 1120 East Cannon Street (HCLC‑25‑211) and 1204 East Cannon Street (HCLC‑26‑065); all of those motions passed 7–0. The commission granted a continuance for HCLC‑26‑073 (2341 North Main Street) to the May 11 meeting at the applicant’s request.
The most contested item was an appeal for a projecting sign at 2505 Rodeo Plaza in the Stockyards (HCLC‑26‑082). After presentations from staff, the applicant (represented by contractor Brent and owner John Ashley) and opponents including the North Fort Worth Historical Society and a project historian, the commission voted 6–1 to deny the appeal without prejudice. Staff had recommended denial because the proposed placement would obscure an arched window and conflict with Stockyards sign standards.
