Superintendent reports enrollment decline, new appointment-based registration and capital-project updates

Superintendent Dr. Bart Reeves reported at the March 17 Albertville City Board of Education meeting that district enrollment stands at 5,447 students (K–12), a decline of 76 students from October. He noted the FY26 budget was based on an enrollment figure of 5,713 submitted to the state in fall 2024 and said the FY27 ETF budget will be based on the 5,523 figure submitted in September 2025, a difference of 190 students compared with the earlier basis.
To streamline family service, the district is introducing an appointment-based registration option staffed by enrollment specialists, with communication scheduled via social media and a direct message to families the week of March 30, 2026. Returning student registration opens April 1, 2026, with returning families receiving a Snapcode by email; the out-of-district application window will run April 1–May 15, 2026, with decisions to be communicated no later than May 29, 2026. New-student registration will occur in two phases: accepted pre-K and kindergarten enrollment opens April 1, 2026, and grades 1–12 registration begins June 9, 2026.
Dr. Reeves also gave capital-improvement updates: an architect is finalizing plans for the K–1 school through April; a storage building next to the AHS gym is near completion but still lacks a roof; AES elementary gym framing is near completion pending weather; AHS gym bleacher work is scheduled to begin in June; and new video boards were installed recently for the baseball and softball fields.
