Marshall County to add K–5 math coaches with $270,000 ALSDE grant

Wigley described instructional coaches as working directly alongside teachers to strengthen instruction, analyze student data and support implementation of standards‑based teaching practices. She said four elementary schools already have a math coach and the new positions will expand that support to all elementary schools, pairing math coaches with existing reading coaches to strengthen instruction in the district’s two core academic areas.
The board recorded the funding source as ALSDE, Office of Math Improvement, and noted the award will be used to create the building‑based positions; the board did not specify exact hire dates or individual schools selected to receive the new coaches during this meeting.
