Burleson EDC renews $40,000 service contract with local Chamber of Commerce

Alex Phillips, the city’s economic development director, told the Burleson Economic Development Corporation the city is proposing a one‑year renewal of the Chamber of Commerce services contract for $40,000 to support business retention and tourism efforts.

“This will be presented by Alex Phillips, economic development director,” Phillips said, describing the Chamber’s role in quarterly luncheons, ribbon cuttings, networking and a range of small‑business resources. He said survey results show strong local sentiment: “93% of businesses rated their satisfaction of the business environment community above average,” and that “63% of business have plans for expansion.”

Under the proposed contract, the Chamber will conduct business retention visits and surveys, provide contact updates and publish summaries of business strengths and needs. The city expects $20,000 of the amount to be recorded as an EDC expense; the remainder will support tourism and marketing, including increased advertising for the Burleson Honey Tour and a contribution toward the Full Circle Women’s Conference.

Board members briefly discussed the Honey Tour and local promotional codes before a motion to approve the contract was brought forward. The motion was made and seconded (mover identified in the record as Bettaker; seconded by Scott), and the board voted unanimously to approve the one‑year contract.

The contract includes standard deliverables (quarterly reports within 30 days of quarter end) and a termination clause that would make the Chamber ineligible for city funding for one year if contractual performance requirements are not met.
