Weslaco staff unveil digital project board to track large infrastructure efforts

City staff on Tuesday demonstrated a new digital project board the mayor’s office is moving into regular use to track large, multi‑layered infrastructure projects.
Skyler, the presenter, said the interactive board was adapted from the physical infrastructure board kept in the mayor’s office and rebuilt on Microsoft 365 tools (Teams/Planner) so departments can add tasks, set due dates and receive automatic email reminders. "As soon as you assign a task or as soon as you put a deadline on a task, whoever is working on this particular project or task will automatically get notified via their email," Skyler said.
The system is invite‑only for department heads, Skyler said, and will produce weekly or periodic progress reports for the commission so elected officials don’t need to check the board daily. Skyler noted the system maintains a database of completed tasks so historical progress remains visible even after items are removed from a physical whiteboard.
Mayor Gonzales praised the tool as an accountability and communications aid and said it will help commissioners respond more quickly to constituent inquiries. "This is a great way to be to know what's going on in our city so that they can have responses to our constituents," Gonzales said.
Commissioners asked about editing rights and how non‑technical members would access the board. Staff said they will provide viewer‑only links and include board updates in the commission’s Friday packet; deeper demonstrations or training can be scheduled on request.
The presentation concluded with staff offering to provide regular progress reports and to arrange more detailed, hands‑on demonstrations for commissioners and department heads.
The commission moved to the next agenda item after the presentation.
