Commission hears litter cleanup results, ARPA interest shortfall and fire response study

At the Jan. 12 work session, several commissioners delivered routine reports. Vice Chairman Tim Mason provided July-December litter-grant results, Commissioner Milan Blake flagged an ARPA interest budget shortfall, and Commissioner Mike Hughes outlined a new fire committee subcommittee studying automatic response agreements.
Mason said the Tennessee Department of Transportation litter grant collected 11,760 pounds of trash and 1,436 pounds of recyclable material covering 794 county road miles, 246 state road miles and 60 city road miles. Blake told the Commission the Finance Committee determined the $300,000 budgeted in the current fiscal year for interest from American Rescue Plan Act funds will be close and said the fund has been effectively depleted. Hughes said the Joint City-County Fire Committee appointed a subcommittee to explore an Automatic Response Agreement for tone-outs covering Fire, EMS and possibly law enforcement; the committee will reconvene March 6, 2026, at noon in the Cleveland City Council Chambers.
