The Weslaco City Commission approved two business-related land-use items Dec. 16 following staff presentations and public hearing procedure.
Item A authorized a change in ownership for an existing event center at 2424 E. Business 83. Staff reported that 23 property owners within a 200-foot radius were notified and no petitions were filed; commissioners approved the change by voice vote.
Item B granted a conditional use permit to El Volcanero (1311 W. IH 2, Suite K) to operate with late hours and on-premise mixed beverage service. Planning staff and P&Z recommended approval with one condition: one licensed security guard must be on duty between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Staff said seven nearby property owners were notified and no petitions were received. The commission approved the permit as recommended.
Commission discussion focused on confirming locations and ensuring conditions were clear; staff confirmed the requested changes apply to existing restaurants and parking adjustments where noted. Both motions passed on voice votes.
