Animal services staff presented an update on operations and outreach.
Staff reported the live-release rate fell from 83% in May to 79% in June and described steps the department is taking to increase outcomes, including alternative placement strategies and community events. “For June, we decreased it to 79 percent,” the presenter said.
The department highlighted a ribbon-cutting for a new office and a wrapped outreach van, recent transports (107 animals moved to rescue in the prior month), ongoing medical-case successes with neonatal puppies and several planned adoption events (Petco and community walks). Staff also described a pilot to offer adoption events at apartment complexes and thanked grant-writing staff for securing funding for outreach tools.
Commissioners praised staff efforts and asked staff to continue outreach to neighboring cities whose numbers affect the overall live-release calculation; staff agreed to keep expanding events and foster recruitment.
