Detroit Switch seeks change of use at 2330 Wildwood Road; staff flags parking and lighting questions

Bill Moldovan of Kimley‑Horn, representing Detroit Switch Inc., presented a change‑of‑use application on March 11 for a property at 2330 Wildwood Road and said the applicant intends to operate a 10,000‑square‑foot assembly operation in a 42,000‑square‑foot building.

"My name is Bill Moldovan. I'm with Kimley Horn, here representing Detroit Switch Inc.," Moldovan said in introducing the application and summarizing the materials staff and Gateway Engineering have reviewed. He told council Detroit Switch is a family‑owned Pittsburgh company with about 26 employees and that the owner is a township resident.

Moldovan said the site currently has 28 parking spaces and that Detroit Switch intends to occupy roughly 10,000 square feet; he argued that the existing 28 spaces meet the township ordinance requirement when accounting for the portion of the building the company will use. Gateway Engineering and staff, however, identified outstanding items including parking calculations for the full building, lighting (staff asked for a photometric plan) and loading‑zone clarifications. Moldovan said the applicant has ordered a Knox box and intends to submit the requested lighting information before the next meeting.

Council members asked about company origins and local investments; Moldovan said Detroit Switch has invested in the property, including a $40,000 roof and roughly $75,000 in electrical upgrades. Planner staff said the application will return in a few weeks, and a public hearing on the zoning ordinance is scheduled at the community center before the March 25 council meeting.
