Weslaco accepts water/wastewater status report and awards operations contract to Inframark

Water Treatment Plant No. 5 — described as the city’s main plant — operated at about 54% capacity and produced close to 7 MGD for the month. Staff noted planned projects including a UV module bid package, sludge dewatering planning, and several lift-station rehabilitations.
Later in the agenda, a staff selection committee reviewed two proposals to operate and manage the city’s water and wastewater facilities. The committee recommended Inframark, citing a CPI-based fee increase (negotiable) and Inframark’s broader team and asset-management/SCADA services, including adding communications to towers that currently have limited connectivity. Commissioners voted to approve the staff recommendation and award the contract to Inframark to begin providing services and initial facility assessments.
The meeting record shows the commission approved the award by voice vote. Staff said a primary early task for the contractor will be assessing communications gaps in SCADA and inventorying equipment and capital needs.
