Council adopts street-name changes and establishes 30 mph speed zones on two county roads

The Burleson City Council on July 21 adopted street‑renaming ordinances and regulatory speed‑limit ordinances intended to clarify wayfinding and improve safety on two corridors.
Staff recommended renaming a portion of County Road 1016 to Chisholm Summit Boulevard and designating a segment of County Road 914 and its new extension to FM 1902 as Lakewood Drive; staff said notices were mailed to abutting property owners and PNZ and staff recommended approval. The council voted unanimously to approve both renamings and amend the city’s official map.
Public‑works staff then presented recommendations to establish consistent 30‑mph regulatory speed limits for two segments: the city portion of County Road 714 between FM 731 and Hidden Creek Parkway and a segment of County Road 914 between County Road 1021 and County Road 914A. Director Eric Thompson cited narrow road width, truck traffic and pavement condition as reasons for lowering the limit and noted the Texas Transportation Code requires annual reporting to TxDOT on enforcement and crash statistics for such sections. Council adopted the ordinances establishing the 30 mph zones (both passed unanimously).
Staff said speed‑limit changes will require annual reporting of enforcement and crash data to TxDOT and may be accompanied by future roadway improvements to address pavement and drainage conditions.
