The Weslaco City Commission on Nov. 4 authorized the mayor and assistant city managers to finalize and execute the collective‑bargaining agreement negotiated with the Weslaco Firefighters Association, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 3207, covering the agreement period through Sept. 30, 2028.
Legal counsel advised the commission that the authorization would allow the mayor and assistant city managers to complete the documentation and sign any necessary papers that reflect the closed‑session negotiations. Commissioners said they and staff sat through the negotiations and emphasized public safety and staffing needs as driving factors behind the agreement.
City and union representatives said they hoped the union membership would ratify the agreement so that the city and department can move forward with staffing plans. The mayor said a press signing ceremony will be scheduled if the union adopts the contract.
The motion to authorize finalization and signature passed by voice vote.
