Summary
The council authorized an intergovernmental agreement with ADOT and accepted a $62,000 Transportation Alternatives planning/design award to advance the Viewpoint Drive multiuse path (Manley to Roundup), citing the 2024 bicycle fatality of Gabriel Grande and plans to incorporate a memorial feature in coordination with the family.
The Prescott Valley Town Council unanimously authorized the mayor to sign an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Arizona Department of Transportation and accept a $62,000 Transportation Alternatives grant to fund 30% design of the Viewpoint Drive multiuse path (Manley Drive to Roundup Drive).
"This project became a top priority for town following the tragic bicycle fatality in 2024 involving Gabriel Grande," said Miss Reuter, a town staff member presenting the project, noting staff will work with the Grande family "to thoughtfully design and incorporate a memorial feature along the multiuse pathway." The design advance to 30% will position the town to move into full design and construction in subsequent budget cycles.
Council members framed the project as an overdue safety improvement, referencing the town’s Safe Streets plan and widespread concern about bicyclists riding in the roadway along Viewpoint Drive. One council member said many bicycles are currently forced into the center of the street and expressed support for an adjacent multi-use path.
Staff said the full design and construction phases will return to council for funding as part of future budget cycles. The council authorized the mayor to sign the IGA and approved the $62,000 amount by unanimous electronic vote.
Next steps listed by staff include completing 30% design, continuing outreach with the Grande family on the memorial feature, and seeking funding for remaining phases during the FY27 budget process.
