After strong resident opposition, Burleson council declines to open Fox Lane to Hidden Creek Parkway

The Burleson City Council decided not to pursue opening South Fox Lane as a public access point to Hidden Creek Parkway after staff presented alternatives and resident feedback.

Director of Capital Engineering Randy Morrison outlined three build options — emergency‑access only (locked gate and Knox box), full public access (right‑of‑way acquisition and construction) and a culvert/low‑water‑crossing replacement — together with a do‑nothing alternative. Morrison said staff mailed a survey to residents along the corridor; 17 responses showed nearly unanimous opposition to a public through access and a majority opposed even an emergency‑access gate.

Residents who spoke at the meeting described a low‑water crossing and infrequent historic flooding, cited a desire to preserve quiet neighborhood character and said emergency vehicles could reach homes via Renfro Street. Council members noted the survey results and resident testimony and directed staff to take no action on opening the road at this time, selecting the do‑nothing option.

Morrison said advancing any of the build options would require a CIP amendment and potential right‑of‑way acquisition; the council accepted the staff recommendation to leave the connection closed pending further study.
