The New York State Assembly on Feb. 26 adopted a legislative resolution (Assembly No. 987) asking the governor to proclaim March 6, 2026, as Lymphedema Day in New York.
Assemblymember Rosenthal introduced Dr. June Wu of Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Dr. Ajit Mooley of the Lymphedema Education and Research Network (LEARN), and a guest, Bonnie Song, and described lymphedema as a painful condition that can follow cancer treatment or be congenital. Rosenthal said more research and improved access to affordable treatment are needed and noted the large number of Americans affected.
The resolution, presented on the floor and read by the clerk, was adopted by voice vote. Rosenthal highlighted patient advocacy work and the need for increased attention to lymphatic disease research and care access.
The measure is a nonbinding legislative memorial requesting a gubernatorial proclamation; no budgetary measures or mandatory programs were adopted during the session.
