Utah State Board of Education approves multiple USDB appointments, extends interim superintendent and denies five-year clearance in case 26-15

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Board of Education voted on a slate of personnel and case actions, approving multiple appointments to advisory bodies for the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind (USDB), extending the interim USDB superintendent's term through May 2026, and denying a five-year clearance in a disciplinary case.
Member Boggess moved that the board appoint Aubrianne Ogden, described in the meeting as "a parent of a deaf student receiving outreach services," to a two-year term on the USDB advisory council; the motion was seconded and the chair recorded no opposition. "I move that the board appoint Aubrianne Ogden, parent of a deaf student receiving outreach services, to a 2 year term on the USDB advisory council," Member Boggess said.
The board also approved Katie Terry, Roberta Dunlap and Taryn Saldana to two-year terms on the USDB School Community Council after a motion from Member Boggess; the chair declared those appointments unanimous.
In personnel action, Member Boggess moved to extend Dr. Molly Hart's appointment as interim superintendent of the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind until the May 2026 board meeting; the motion was seconded and recorded as passing unanimously.
On consent-calendar business, Member Boggess pulled case number 26-15 from the UPET/UPAC consent calendar for separate consideration. After discussion, he moved that the board deny clearance in case 26-15 for five years from the most recent offense. The chair announced the vote as passing 14 in favor and 1 opposed; the lone opposition was recorded as Member Lear.
Other UPAC and UPEQ recommendations were approved in succession. The board approved the UPAC recommendation in case 22-1894 (vote recorded as 13 in favor, 2 opposed; the meeting recorded Members Earl and Boggess as opposed). The board approved case 24-2169 unanimously. The board approved case 25-2290 and UPEQ case 25-2306 with recorded opposing votes from Member Kelly in each instance; those motions were otherwise carried by recorded majorities.
