Lisle board backs 12‑year Downtown TIF extension to advance Family Square redevelopment

The Lisle Village Board voted March 16 to support a 12‑year extension of Downtown Tax Increment Financing District No. 3 to facilitate redevelopment of the former Family Square property.
Village Manager Cook told trustees the village had received support letters from 11 of the 12 underlying tax bodies and expected the final letter to arrive later in the month. "Passage of the resolution provides official village board support for the extension," Cook said, and staff plans to submit the complete package to Springfield for consideration during the spring legislative session.
During public comment, Tom Hummel urged the board to protect tax equity, saying tax‑exempt properties such as the fire station should not be assessed in a way that leaves future tax increment capture unfairly shifted, and that debt service from referendum and pension levies should be excluded from the TIF so future residents pay their share of legacy costs. The board discussed the intergovernmental coordination that produced the support letters and thanked other taxing bodies for their cooperation before approving the resolution by roll call.
The resolution directs staff to finalize the support package and proceed with legislative steps; trustees characterized the initiative as a cooperative effort to support redevelopment while noting remaining procedural steps required before state approval.
