Resident urges county proclamation backing Colorado mail-in ballots and flags vape battery fire risk

A resident who identified himself as Eric addressed the Huerfano County Board of Commissioners during public comment on March 10 and asked the board to issue a proclamation endorsing Colorado’s mail-in ballot system, calling it a bipartisan and secure voting method.
Eric said the state’s mail-in system has been "exemplary" and urged the commissioners to recognize its safety amid national discussion about ballot security. He also raised a separate safety concern after observing news reports of a major fire in Glasgow, Scotland that began in a vape shop. He noted that vape devices contain lithium-ion batteries, which present different firefighting challenges, and requested that the county or fire district inspect local vape retailers and consider training or preparedness measures related to ion-battery fires.
"There's a lot of talk about voter security and ballot security in this day and age," Eric said. "I think we should recognize the fact that the mail in ballot system in this state is safe and secure." He added that fire districts might already be aware of risks but suggested inspections and training to ensure local preparedness.
The board accepted the comments; no formal referral or proclamation was recorded during the meeting as a direct outcome of the public comment period.
