A Boulder City resident told the Historic Preservation Commission on May 28 that a partially demolished building at 668 Avenue D — she said damaged in a November fire — was being removed by hand and that some historic materials were lost during the work. Staff told the commission they had not received any building-permit applications for the property and would check records and processes.
"It was a fire that happened in November," resident Brynn Delormier said during final public comment, describing how workers hand‑demolished parts of the building and discarded some original windows she had hoped to recover. She urged "active enforcement" by the city when the city is aware of incidents such as fires to ensure owners and contractors follow preservation and permitting requirements.
City staff responding to the commission said they had received initial contact about the property and that the owner was pursuing insurance and consulting an architect, but that no certificate of appropriateness or building permits had been submitted at the time of the meeting. "We haven't received any permits at this time," a city staff member said, and staff will look into submitted permits and next steps.
Commissioners asked staff to provide an update on the demolition process, clarify what is required for a demolition in the historic district (contributing vs. non‑contributing resources), and report back on enforcement and permit status at a future meeting.
