The PILLAGER PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT board approved a district cardiac emergency response (CERC) plan, saying the measure brings the district into compliance with new state requirements and aims to reduce deaths from cardiac arrest through AED availability and trained staff response.
A presenter explained the plan’s key elements: formation of a trained response team, AED placement and maintenance, a target of having an AED within three minutes of any incident, annual drills and a yearly plan review. The presenter said the district has identified four fixed AED locations (weight room, commons, middle/high school gyms and elementary gym), a traveling AED for spring sports, and plans to work with Project Adam and local EMS for on‑site drills. "The goal is to have an AED within 3 minutes of any event that would happen," the presenter said.
Board members asked about AED placement at remote athletic fields, traveling units for sports practices and grant options to offset purchase costs; administration noted prior grant work and that devices can cost roughly $3,500 each. The board voted to approve the CERC plan and to add it to the district crisis plan for annual review; administration will distribute the approved plan to North Memorial EMS and the fire department and arrange drills with a Project Adam representative.
