Clarksburg City Council on March 19 approved three contracts to remove asbestos and demolish vacant structures across the city.
The council awarded Contract 1 to Reclaim Company LLC (Fairmont, W.Va.) for $76,450 to abate and demolish six addresses; the work will be paid from DLAP funds that must be obligated by June 30. Council discussed the remaining DLAP balance (approximately $140,000) and the goal of clustering projects by neighborhood to reduce costs.
Contract 2 was awarded to the same firm, Reclaim Company LLC, for $153,065 from the general fund to cover a second set of properties; council clarified that grant‑funded properties were grouped together to streamline paperwork.
Contract 3 was awarded to Safeco of Dillinger, Pa., for $148,700 from the general fund to abate and demolish the third list of properties. All three motions passed by voice vote.
City staff said they will attempt to submit additional DLAP contracts by May 15 to utilize remaining funds before the June 30 deadline.
