Planning commission tables Highway 57 Business Park preliminary plat over stormwater concerns

The Kasson City Planning Commission voted to table the Highway 57 Business Park preliminary and final plat until the applicant provides a complete stormwater plan that meets city code and addresses prior PUD-required underground stormwater measures.
Staff said the application is incomplete because submitted stormwater documentation does not meet the city’s requirements and does not reflect a 2018 conditional-use/PUD condition that called for underground stormwater attention. Staff said it is continuing to work with the applicant and the project engineer to get the necessary information and planned to meet with the engineer on Thursday to address outstanding drainage solutions.
Commissioners and staff discussed possible technical solutions — including acquiring additional property for drainage or excavating a stormwater pond — and noted the site’s history of flooding prior to 2019 improvements. Because of unresolved drainage concerns, a motion to table the preliminary plat until the stormwater plan is satisfactory was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
